어렸을때 부터 동전 모으는 취미를 갖고 있었던 마틴은 일찌기 유명한 골동품 동전 수집가로 활동해 왔었다. 

60년대 중반 아버지의 권유로 컴퓨터 회사에 취직하여 컴퓨터의 가능성에 눈을 뜬 마틴은 역사적인 경제 사이클과 동전과의 관계를 DB 로 구축 독보적인 경제 사이클 모델을 발견하게 된다. 

역사적으로 인류문명은 금,은,동 같은 금속을 사용 하여 당시의 가치 기준에 부합한 동전 화폐로 활용 했었다.

그러나 경제 위기가 올때 마다 동전의 성분을 속이기 위한 편법을 사용한 동전들의 등장이 반복되곤 하였다고 한다. ("악화가 양화를 구축한다"는 이야기를 종종 들어봤을 것이다)

마틴은 역사적 시기에 따른 동전들의 성분 변화를 모두 분석 기록하여 DB 를 구축, 그안에서 [[ctd:pi|파이(Pi)]] 상수를 지니는 독특한 경제 예측 사이클을 발견하였다.

이 예측 모델은 너무나 정확하여 결국 기득권 세력의 눈밖에 벗어나 억울한 옥살이를 하며 DB와 소스코드를 모두 건네주고 2010년에 가까스로 풀려 나게 된다.

90년대 말 까지 조단위의 투자금을 굴리던 마틴은 이제 직접적인 투자자 활동을 접고 강연회를 열거나 전세계에서 일어나는 변화에 대한 자신의 견해를 밝히는 블로그를 통해 일반 대중을 깨우는 일에 전념 하고 있다.

마틴에 따르면 그의 ECM 모델은 트럼프의 우승을 예상했다. ECM 예측대로 진행되지 않은 유일한 경우는 엘고어 와 부시 대결이었다. 당시에는 부시 가족이 주지사로 있는 플로리다 개표에서 무더기 무효표 판정이 나면서 선거 결과가 뒤집혔었다.

  - 부동산을 갖고 싶으면 부동산이 위치한 지역 화폐로 가장 낮고 장기적인 __고정__ 금리로 보유하도록 한다
  - 지역 정부에서 얼마만큼의 세금을 부과 하느냐에 따라 부동산의 가치는 정해질 것이므로 앞으로 18년간은 가치 보존의 수단으로 간주하면 안된다
  - 로마 시대와 달리 도망갈 곳이 없다는 점을 유념하자
