Connecting The Dots

영화 매트릭스 같이 우리는 현실을 구분 할수 없을 정도로 정교하고 사실적인 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 안에 살고 있을지도 모른다는 computer simulation 가설은 최근 Oxford 의 Nick Bostrom 과 Maryland 의 James Gates 교수에 의해 독립적으로 제안 되었다.

순전히 가정 과 논리적 전개로 만으로 이루어낸 Nick Bostrom 의 시뮬레이션 논쟁(Simulation argument) 은 아래 3가지 가정 중 최소 하나 이상은 맞다는 “Are We living in a Computer Simulation” 가설에 근거 하고 있다.

ABSTRACT. This paper argues that at least one of the following propositions is true:

1. the human species is very likely to go extinct before reaching a “posthuman” stage;
2. any posthuman civilization is extremely unlikely to run a significant number of simulations of their evolutionary history (or variations thereof);
3. we are almost certainly living in a computer simulation. It follows that the belief that there is a significant chance that we will one day become posthumans who run ancestor-simulations is false, unless we are currently living in a simulation.

초끈이론의 한 분야인 초대칭성(Supersymmetry) 를 15년 이상 연구하던 James Gates 교수는 복잡한 수식을 컴퓨터 도식으로 표현 하던 도중 우연히 물리 법칙안에 1940년도 Claude Shannon 이 발명한 “Doubly-even self-dual linear binary error-correcting block code” 와 동일한 컴퓨터 코드가 존재 함을 발견 하고 우리가 영화 매트릭스 같이 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 안에서 살고 있을지 모른다는 가설을 제시한다.

과학은 보고 만질수 있는 물리계만을 섬기는 또 하나의 종교라 할 수 있다.

실험으로 증명이 안되는 것들은 그동안 과학의 범주에서 배제해 왔지만 이제는 과학 스스로 끌어안아서 풀어야 하는 한계에 도달했다.

20세기 과학의 발전과 인터넷이라는 정보의 바다는 새로운 형이상학의 세계를 열어 주었다.
